I just arrived in Tokyo after being deprived of internet for the last two days, so I've got a lot to catch up on. And as much as I want to do the inaugural blog post for the trip, Haruhi awaits. SkySapphire2nd season has really degraded animation and direction. :/ Sure, I want to know the story, but first season was immensely more refined and sincere at delivering that. Nothing to blame subbers for, afaik though.
ericfromabenoas far as you know? 9_9 silly :P ... and has the animation degraded that much?? seems to me like they would hire the same crew, wouldn't they?? the story may seem "less" but that could be a matter of perceived "freshness" too...

*facepalm* The animation has been clearly above average, easily surpassing season 1 in most places. It's the ART, specifically the CHARACTER ART because the background art is as amazingly good as usual, that's been half-assed. The animators have been doing exceptionally well considering the shit the artists have been handing them.

As for the direction, I kind of agree with you. I was pretty shocked to see it's still the same director. He's obviously over-correcting the biggest flaw the first season had - too much telling not enough showing. This season is the direct opposite - there's too much showing but not enough telling, so unless you've read the novels you'll be left in the dark most of the time. I don't think it applies to this arc though since there's a lot to show and the stuff to tell would bore most people (personally I enjoy the magic exposition but I can see why others wouldn't) so they ignored it completely. Thanks to that the pacing has been pretty damn good compared to the pacing of the original novel which was pretty horrible. It's unfortunate this arc amounts to absolutely nothing in the end though.

Enoah, volumes 7-13 are complete tho, and i think they cover whole second season of anime.
