It has been 8 long months since we released the camrip sub of the haruhi movie, and now, after another 30 man-hours spent re-TLing, retiming, TSing, and overall beautifying, Mazui is proud to present Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu in glorious 1080p.

Notes:
No BDMV yet, so this is the share raw that's been floating around. It's fairly decent, though not quite the bitrate I'd prefer. When we get the BD we'll be re-releasing with a higher quality encode, and 720p as well.

If you downloaded the share raw beforehand, I've made a patch that you can use to turn it into our release without having to mess around with muxing it yourself:

Hey guys, great freaking job. Quick question for you, my computer is somewhat decent, but not the best. This release runs super slow on my computer using MPC with CCCP. The subtitles get off, video skips every 2 seconds, and timing goes bad. Is there a way to make this better besides spending oodles of money on a new computer?

for those of you who check the comments, mazui has a 1 GB, "LQ" version of the movie in their "torrents" page, that is not linked to on this page. i ASSUME it's 480p?? not sure, because the 1080p version is listed as 720p on the torrent page. i'm sure mazui will let us know the details. or you can just dl it and check it out for yourself, like me ;)

@Xephelion (if you're still around) there's nothing wrong with the "second season"... though for the Endless 8 episodes, i recommend watching only the first and last ones... not because the rest aren't worth watching, but because most people notice the repetitiveness more than the myriad changes of detail... i kinda think it might be cool to show 4 eps at once, "4-quadrant-screen" style, with selectable audio/subs, so you can see the diferences as they play out..

aside from those Endless 8 eps, every other episode of "season 2" is just as good as season 1, imo.

MazuiDaisuki, the video isn't Mazui's. It's muxed with a shareraw. They're going to do a better encode when they get the actual BD. 720p encoded properly from the BD might be better than 1080p from a shareraw. And there will be a new 1080p encode anyway.

@MazuiDaisuki there are a variety of reasons people might want a 720p version more than a 1080p... mostly it would be about their processor power, or their storage options. i will probably go with a 720p version myself, just because the difference in quality doesn't justify 3-4 times the filesize, for me. i just don't notice the difference enough to bother me.

It's a bit selfish, but do you think, sometime, you could release a version with a blue overtone, like the camrip had?

I felt it really added to the atmosphere of the movie, making you feel as though you were in a movie theatre, especially with the rooftop scene and the snow.

Go into your monitor settings, turn down the red & green levels. Easy, almost-non-technical solution. Completely non-technical solution? Go to your arts & crafts store. Buy a sheet of blue tinted transparency film. Apply to screen.

HELP!
I have The Disappearance of Subtitles by Mazui with newest CCCP, only mazui's subs. Subs are detected but not displayed. Looking at tray icons I noticed that VSFilter is not loaded, I saw the green arrow every time I played subtitled vids before upgrading. Everything else is fine as was yesterday except the subs in Mazui's files...

The message on the computer at length 1:35 and on did not completely follow the script; it just shows only half the translated message on Nagato's computer message. Does it only have this problem on my computer, and I can i fix that?

It looks allright to me. No artifacts or other unwanted things at the screen. Besides it's better in 400p XviD than not being able to watch it at all in 1080p H264. When you have a crappy old PC and no perspectives (for the time being) to change it to something newer and faster, you don't have much choice and place to complain. I'm actually glad that some groups still pamper a people like me with their SD releases.

I agree with him, the camrip had a nice feel to it. It was small, and had the guy coughing at times, but the blueness that it had really added to the atmosphere of the movie, making you feel as though you were in a movie theatre.

Big resolution is nice, but there's more to beauty than high res.

My reaction to the camrip was WAY more intense though. Perhaps it's because I now already know the movie that my reaction to the blu ray wasn't as powerful.

But I don't regret watching the camrip at all. Especially bro's on /a/ made that particular experience unforgettable. Absolutely unforgettable.

Collectively suffering through shoushitsu syndrome was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I usually don't get 1080p, but since this one is only 3.58GB then why the hell not. Quality is pretty great on my 22" monitor. Hopefully the 1080p BD won't be too big (say 10GB), else I'd get the 720p one.

I found a temporary fix for the cut-off subs on the computer. If you are using MPC-HC, go to Play(or right click)-subtitles-styles. Then click on the tab that say "TS". Under Colors & Transparency change the Secondary Transparency from 0% to 100%. That will get the rest of the subs to appear, but it will be black. If you want it to look like the rest of the subs, then you will need to click on the color button to change the color (next to the transparency sliders). Under Basic colors choose the bottom-right box (white). Then next to "Lum" change the number from 240 to 200. That should look pretty close to the correct color. Note that you would have to do this every time you start the movie. Hopefully Mazui's re-release will have this fixed.

I was merely going to say "Thanks for your hard work" and such however after watching this movie...

(tl;dr): I wanted to give thank you very much for taking the time to give us a high quality movie (in 1080p no less) and using your exemplary skills to subtitle with minimal or without any aberrations. I'm almost at a loss for words as to how I am to express how magnificent the movie was in terms of storyline, animation and music.

The storyline was without a doubt, one of it's best amongst the series. It kept me in the edge of my seat, contemplating on was to transpire whilst comprehending the situation. It also delivers the characters' persona to the fullest of their extent, to the point where you can emphasize with them. I haven't had such a benevolent experience watching a movie such as this in a long while. Sure, I don't want to exaggerate that it's "the best" but one can safely say it's "up there", I daresay.

The animation. Playstation 3 / Blu-ray Player. 1080p. Need I say anymore?

The music was also a huge impact. In fact, most would agree that without music, even with it's epic storytelling, it'd simply be a catharsis. The soundtrack simply filled the person (or me in this case) with emphasis in benign of tears or wrought with despondency depending on the situation. Now, if I only knew where I may procure such masterpieces...

Overall? Simply astounding. Words cannot convey the modality regarding this, not even in a tabular form! Once more, whether you're reading this or not, I deeply thank you for your exemplary performance, dedication, and selfless humble releases you gave us, especially this. If there was a donation box, you'd bet I'd be one of the first, however, in respect of your wishes, I will instead use my funds to buy the Blu-ray Movie of it. The least I can do is express my gratitude and carry out a feeble favor, such as this.
Continue to prosper Mazui! I shall stick with you and support you as long as I breath! As your dedicated fan, ever since you first created this site, you have yet to disappoint!

I had exactly the same problem with cccp/mpc when I had to go to a back-up laptop.

1. If your problem is with the 1080p release, you might be fine with the 720p, requests for which form the chorus of this blog-page, probably by others in the same boat or who gag at 1080p file sizes. Someday I may regret not being able to count Haruhi's nose hairs, but 720p seems good enough for now. (BTW, did you notice the recent 2D/3D choice on a Shukufuku BD bath scene? The upgrade cycle never ends anyway. 720p now, then wait for the definitive 3200p, 4D with SurroundSmell and Soft Telepathy version of this movie. Fry on TV, 3000AD: â€œIt has better resolution than reality!â€)

2. As someone said, Coreavc may help -but is not free ($10 at website). Worth it, if it does the job and you have the facilities for ecommerce (credit card, paypal)

3. In my case, instead of that I tried all the players to see if any did better with minimal hardware. The winner was KMP. Using their "express mode" everything that lagged and fell apart in CCCP/MPC now played great. But under subtitle options, you'll have to enable external module handling of subs to get the full usual effects. On my dinosaur, 720p with subs is my limit using KMP. Using CCCP/MPC the same machine could only manage 480p with subs and that would lag too. 720p on this slug? I couldn't be more impressed. (1.0G Celeron, 1 Gig Memory, no graphics card). Making Intel look good is a modern video coding miracle. Thanks h264, and all who died enchanting it.

The use of anything other than CCCP/MPC however is heresy in the anime world for good historical reasons, as is hatred for the makers of KMP who may have cheated on crediting open source materials. I'm just practical, I guess.
