@efu:
It's plausible that it should be 'sweetfish', but it's understandable how it could guessed to possibly mean 'salmon'.

A minor note for the line "Maria ga kureta semi no nukegara wo shiriai ni tanonde kakou shite moratta'n'da.", which is currently subtitled as "It's a cicada shedding. She got a friend to encase it.": Since what an acquaintance was asked to do work on was 'a cicada shell that Maria gave ('kureru', used for giving to the speaker)', the asking took place after the giving. It would be ambiguous who asked for it to be encased if it was 'mistsuketa' rather than 'kureta', but as it is it's consistent with the novel translation at that point.
That the encasing is arranged by Kate rather than Maria highlights both Maria's neglect of her in comparison to Kobato (giving her such a thing) and Kate's sister complex (treasuring such a thing to the point of having it made into a pendant).
*joy at being able to witness the character interacctions in audio and video form*
the only explanation i can think of is that dictionary-derived english translation (="sweetfish") wouldn't make that much sense, and, aesthetically speaking, could rather be an eyesore of a kind, so upon considering all pros and cons the translator changed it to a more familiar analogue (=salmon)... though, i personally would have been more comfortable should it had been left as is, that is - namely - "ayu" (as it adds a taste of authenticity, and on the other hand doesn't take much effort to search for its meaning on the web)
thanks for the episode.
So much win for the episode
